If you’re anything like me, you’ll have looked in the mirror (or seen a photo) one day and gone “F*&%! When did I get so fat?!”.
This causes instant action into finding a diet, joining a slimming group or hitting the gym like some kind of exercise fiend – which might go really well…for a while. You feel the thrill of losing a few pounds, you start getting a few comments about looking well…and so you start to ease off on the “rules”. You start “treating” yourself to some forbidden foods. You miss a few meet ups. You start skipping gym days.
Before you know it you’re back in front of that mirror in a worse state than you were before. And so the cycle repeats.
We’ve all been there in some form or other and we keep on repeating it, expecting different results to happen – which is Einstein’s definition of insanity!
Why? You’re an intelligent person. You know healthy foods and exercise are important. So why is it so hard to action and sustain?
Cultural Conditioning
The cultural conditioning we have received that tells us that we have to diet and exercise to lose weight.
Yes eating healthy foods and exercising is important, but that’s not the first port of call.
Weight is a SYMPTOM, not a problem. To lose weight and KEEP IT OFF you need to focus on the underlying causes that are stopping you from eating well and exercising.
Stress
There is an almond shaped part of the brain called the amygdala and this little fella is responsible for releasing stress hormones (such as adrenalin and cortisol). These flood your body and shut down the creative and intelligent part of your brain.
The results of this are:
- Your digestive system slows down – making it very hard to lose weight
- Your blood vessels constrict – which affects how you think, how your brain and body function and how your brain reacts to any situation
Have you noticed that when you’re stressed you make the worst possible food choices?
You find yourself reaching for comfort food because – well, the clue is in the title! You’re looking for comfort! And you get it because that comfort food increases your brain’s concentration of an amino acid called tryptophan, which is the building block of serotonin. Serotonin is a transmitter that, when released, brings about feelings of calm, happiness and satisfaction.
You’re overeating because your brain is looking for pleasure and it feels great in the moment. Until the side effects and guilt kick in.
Shortly after a sugar rush your insulin levels drop and you feel exhausted – triggering a craving for more sugary carbohydrates. It’s a vicious circle. No wonder you’re struggling!
How much stress are you under in your everyday life? Lots right? Add to that stress around weight, then add to that the stress of putting yourself on diet! A diet that takes will power because you’re forcing yourself to lose weight. It’s a fight and it’s exhausting.
No matter how much you diet, no matter how much you make yourself exercise – if you are dealing with stress and other negative emotions YOU WILL STRUGGLE TO LOSE WEIGHT.
Stress will LITERALLY create a hormone that makes you fat.
HOW CAN YOU LOSE WEIGHT WITH EFT?
There are three blocks to weight loss that EFT will help you to clear.
- Events – experiences from the past that are still impacting you in a negative manner
- Beliefs – beliefs or stories that prevent you from losing weight and keeping it off
- Emotions – what emotions are you feeling (or trying to avoid feeling) when engaged in self sabotaging behaviour?
So HOW does EFT help?
Firstly I want to tell you that no matter how frustrated you are with your weight right now, with all the diets that have failed you in the past – it’s not your fault. You didn’t know the truth about what was going on. About these three blocks going on in your sub conscious mind. And you didn’t know about EFT.
EFT has been scientifically proven to reduce stress – allowing you to regain control over your mind and body – like making healthy choices easily and naturally when it comes to food and exercise.
There was a study by Dr Dawson Church (PhD) on the effect of tapping on levels of cortisol in the blood stream. Three groups of people were involved. The first received an hour of EFT. The second an hour of talk therapy. The third was a control group.
The group who received EFT experienced an AVERAGE of a 24% decrease in the level of cortisol in their blood stream. Some individuals experienced a 50% decrease! The other two groups experienced no significant change.
That is a MASSIVE difference.
Stress is accumulative. Imagine being able to not only quickly reduce the level of stress you’re feeling, but also to teach your brain not to react in the first place.That has a huge affect on both allowing you to feel better AND to lose weight and keep it off.
